5 Things Bringing Me Peace This Week
Life can get overwhelming. Between work deadlines, family needs, and that never-ending to-do list (hello, laundry that magically regenerates overnight), it’s easy to feel like you’re running on fumes. Lately, I’ve been trying to be more intentional about slowing down and noticing what’s bringing me peace. Not the big, dramatic kind of peace you find on a yoga retreat in Bali (though wouldn’t that be nice), but the small, gentle kind that shows up in quiet moments if you’re paying attention.

So, I thought I’d share five things that have been bringing me peace this week. Maybe something here will spark a little calm in your life too.
1. Morning Light and a Hot Drink
There’s something almost sacred about early morning light. I’m not a naturally early riser, but this week I’ve been waking up just a bit before the rest of the house. The sky still feels soft and sleepy. The light through the window is golden and quiet. And in that moment, with my hands wrapped around a warm mug, everything feels… still.
I’ve been rotating between herbal teas and a cinnamon-spiced decaf coffee. There’s something grounding about the ritual of it, boiling the water, pouring it slowly, taking that first warm sip. Sometimes I sit in silence. Other times I journal a little or listen to soft music. But always, I try to resist reaching for my phone right away. That first half-hour of calm has been setting the tone for the rest of my day.
If you haven’t tried starting your morning with a quiet drink and no screens, I highly recommend it. Even ten minutes can feel like a little reset.
2. A Walk Without Purpose
I took a walk earlier this week that I almost didn’t go on. I had a million things I “should” have been doing. But my brain was buzzing, my body felt tight, and I knew I needed to move. So I laced up my shoes, zipped up my coat, and stepped outside no destination, no fitness tracker, no plan.
And honestly? It was one of the most peaceful parts of my week.
I didn’t walk fast. I didn’t have headphones in. I just let my eyes wander to the trees, to the way the light was hitting the sidewalk, to a squirrel dramatically chasing a leaf (he was very committed). My thoughts slowed down. My breath deepened. And even though I wasn’t out for long, I came back home feeling like I’d just spent an hour at the spa.
There’s something special about walking just to walk not to get somewhere or hit a goal, but simply to be with yourself and your surroundings.
3. Saying “No” (And Not Explaining)
Okay, this one is a little less cozy and a little more boundary-based, but hear me out. This week, I said no to something I didn’t want to do. And I didn’t justify it. I didn’t over-explain. I didn’t send a paragraph-long text trying to soften it with “maybe another time!” or “I wish I could!” when I really didn’t.
I just said, “Thanks for thinking of me, but I’m going to pass this time.”
And then I breathed a big sigh of relief.
It’s not always easy. People-pleasing is deeply ingrained in me. But every time I say no to something that drains me, I’m saying yes to something that fills me up rest, time with my family, space to just be.
This week, that one “no” created an open afternoon that I ended up spending baking banana muffins with my toddler. It was messy. It was slow. It was full of laughter and sticky fingers. And it brought me way more peace than the thing I turned down ever could have.
If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, maybe there’s something you can gently say no to this week and just let that be enough.
4. A Cozy Playlist
You know that feeling when a song comes on and it instantly softens your whole body? That’s what this playlist has been doing for me lately. It’s a mix of gentle acoustic guitar, soft vocals, a few instrumental pieces, and some nostalgic tracks that remind me of simpler times.
I’ve been putting it on while I do mundane things folding laundry, prepping dinner, even answering emails and it shifts the whole mood. Suddenly, the ordinary feels a little more intentional. A little more beautiful.
Music has this way of sneaking under your skin and speaking directly to your nervous system. It reminds your body that it’s safe. That it’s okay to slow down. That it doesn’t have to be go-go-go all the time.
If you’d like, I can share the playlist I made. Or you can create your own “peaceful vibes” mix just gather songs that make you feel safe, soft, or nostalgic. Bonus points for including some that remind you of good memories or a calm place you love.
5. Letting the Mess Be
This one is hard for me. I like things tidy. Clear counters, made beds, no dishes in the sink, it all makes me feel more in control. But this week, I didn’t have the energy to keep everything perfect. And instead of pushing myself or spiraling into frustration, I tried something new.
I let the mess be.
I didn’t ignore it forever, the dishes got done eventually. The toys got picked up at the end of the day. But in the moment, I gave myself permission to focus on rest instead of the mess. I lit a candle. I curled up with a blanket and a book. I sat on the floor and played trains with my little one. And you know what? The world didn’t fall apart.
Sometimes peace comes from letting go of the pressure to have it all together. From accepting that life is sometimes a bit messy, and that doesn’t make it any less beautiful.
None of these things are life-changing on their own. They’re small, almost ordinary moments, a walk, a cup of tea, a quiet song. But together, they’re helping me feel more grounded in a world that often feels chaotic.
Peace doesn’t have to come from dramatic shifts or big changes. Sometimes it’s hidden in the little pauses. The conscious choices to slow down. The gentle boundaries. The reminders that it’s okay to be human.
I’d love to know what’s been bringing you peace lately? Let’s share ideas in the comments and build a little pocket of calm together.
Take care of yourself this week, friend. You deserve it.
